TWISTERS

Written by SSG Matt

If you have seen the original Twister back in 1996 and thought that this was going to be the same, well I can tell you it was not cows flying; it was not houses that they drove through. No, this one is written completely different. This movie is fully action packed, adventure inspired, disaster filled, and has some dramatic romance on the side. The film keeps you sitting on the edge of your seat and always looking towards the sky.

The story starts off in a town in Oklahoma, where college student Kate Carter (Daisy Edgar-Jones) is seeking a grant to continue her research on reducing the magnitude of tornados. While chasing storms for her research and being so excited about finding the optimal circumstances, conditions, and finally the perfect tornado for her project, the situation turns drastically wrong. With the loss of three of her fellow colleagues, one being her personal love, she moves to New York to sit behind a desk with a 9 to 5 job. Three years later her old colleague Javi (Anthony Ramos) comes to visit Kate and ask her to help him with his current meteorological research, and pleading with her that she could be the difference in the success of the project. When they arrive back in Tornado Alley, it seems that storm chasing has gone crazy with people from all over the U.S. that think they know how to chase storms. One that came from Arkansas was Tyler Owens (Glen Powell) who likes the lime light from the success of his YouTube channel and merchandise sales.

As the story develops, we see a lot of nail-biting situations that have you sitting on the edge of your seat. From beginning to the end, the movie is constantly in a state of action with amazing CGI that looks great. Some of the predicaments that were shown are not very realistic, but were cool to see while others were so realistic that you could have been there in that moment. Twisters is definitely a fun ride!

Overall as you can probably gather, I give this movie an excellent our five-tiered scale (Excellent, Above Average, Average, Below Average, Bad). I thought that it was great that they did not try to remake the original Twister movie, but instead went with new material. The acting was great and did not give away what was coming next. I would highly recommend this as a safe to watch family of which there are few to be seen these days.
